La fraction C3 du complément est une protéine provenant des deux voies d'activation du système du complément.
Son dosage, lorsqu'il est diminué conjointement au C4, permet d'identifier un lupus érythémateux disséminé actif, différentes formes de glomérulonéphritemembrano-proliférative ainsi que des affections dues aux immun-complexes.
Son dosage, lorsqu'il est augmenté, est également utile pour identifier un syndrome inflammatoire en phase aiguë.
